5 Top Hygiene Tips

Most people want to take the best care of their teeth most also realise that regular check-ups at the dentist are important. Whilst this is undoubtedly a good step to take when looking after your teeth, there are other things that you should also be doing to achieve great oral hygiene.

Here are five of our top tips:

  1. Floss at least once a day

Flossing is not a lot of fun, but it is incredibly important for attaining good oral hygiene. Flossing allows food to be removed from your teeth in the places where your toothbrush cannot get to. This stops a build-up of bacteria which could cause problems in the long-term.

  1. Brush properly

Everybody knows that brushing your teeth at least twice a day is a good idea. When you are brushing make sure that the bristles are at a 45 degree angle and that you touch both the teeth and the gum line.

  1. Use mouthwash

Whilst mouthwash is not a substitute for regular brushing or flossing it can help to kill bacteria in your mouth as well as promote fresh breath.

  1. Try to limit fizzy drinks

Fizzy drinks not only contain a high amount of sugar; they can also have additives and colourings in them which can discolour teeth as well as give them a dull appearance.

  1. Choose calcium rich food

Getting enough calcium is really important for the health of your teeth. Particularly good foods to eat to achieve this include broccoli, yoghurt and cheese. Drinking milk is also a way of increasing your intake of calcium.
